Rodney Sellers

April 10, 1949 — April 17, 2025

Harlan, KY

Rodney Sellers, a beloved figure in the Harlan community, departed this world on April 17, 2025, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering kindness and service. Born on April 10, 1949, in Harlan, KY, Rodney spent his life working diligently and passionately, first as a coalminer and later dedicating many years as a devoted volunteer attendance clerk at James A. Cawood High School.

Rodney was known for his love of sports, supporting the University of Kentucky and the Harlan County Black Bears with fervor. He took pride in his role as the scorekeeper at James A. Cawood High School from 2002, later moving to the new Harlan County High School in 2009. He cherished each and every moment spent at the school until his health led him to step back from this position.

His proudest accomplishments included not only his contributions to the local sports scene but also his deep connections with family and friends. Rodney's greatest joy was found in the laughter and happiness he shared with his grandson, Teagan. Beyond sports, he had a passion for collecting coal mining stickers and was an avid coin collector, relishing the stories each piece held.

Rodney leaves behind a loving family, including his sons, Chadwick Brian Sellers and fiancé Tiffany Daniels, Samuel Sellers and wife Feifan, and Rodney J. Sellers Jr. and wife Kristy. His daughter, Jessica Lynn Milwee and husband Kris, along with his brothers Clavis Sellers and wife Paulette, and Harold Sellers, as well as his sister Shelby Haynes, also remain to honor his memory. The joy of his grandchildren, Teagan Combs, Joseph Doyle, Samuel Sellers Jr., and Adrian Sellers, will forever carry his spirit forward, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who were touched by his warm heart.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Sellers and Thelma Thacker Sellers, his beloved wife Sharon Elkins Sellers, and his sisters Charlotte Cornett, Barbara Napier, and Cleta Boggs. His absence will be felt profoundly in the hearts of all who knew him.

A visitation in Rodney's honor will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan, KY, on April 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service the next day, April 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM, with the Reverend Williams Adkins officiating.
