Mr. Robert Eugene Frye, age 83 of Fairfax, VA, formerly of the Elcomb community of Harlan County passed away on December 1, 2016.
Bob was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and he served as a radio operator on a B29 as part of the Strategic Air Command out of Mountain Home, Idaho after the war.
Bob Attended college obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering and started his career with the L&N Railroad. He worked for other engineering firms throughout his life and was involved Interstate Highway design, rail road construction and waste management. He designed and supervised construction of a direct loading system of coal cars to barges in the Licking River near Cincinnati, OH.
Bob married the love of his life, Lois Jewel Smith and they celebrated 58 years together until her death six years ago. Bob was also a member of the Fields Masonic Lodge in Cumberland, KY for over 50 years.
Born January 29, 1933 to the late Birchel and Jessie Louise Frye. He was also preceded in death by his wife; Lois Jewel Frye, son; Robert Birchel Frye and brother; Charles Harrison Frye.
Left to mourn his passing is daughter; Teresa Lynn Cortesi(and her husband Bob) of Maui, Hawaii, grandson; Anthony Robert (Tracy) Curtas of Fairfax, VA, great grandchildren; Evan James Curtas and Lillian Hazel Curtas and sister; Eva Eldora Cunagin of Eldorado, Arkansas.
Mr. Frye's family will receive friends at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 7th from 6 to 8 P.M.
Masonic Funeral Rites will be at 10 A.M. Thursday December 8th in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, graveside services will follow at 11 AM with he Rev. Josh Hensley officiating at Rest Haven Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the Harlan County Honor Guard.
