Ralph Edward Turner, age 80, of Big Laurel, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, February 3, 2014. He was born in Big Laurel on June 14, 1933 to the late Frank and Myrtle Sizemore Turner. Ralph worked as a logger, miner and for 50 years as a dozer operator, where he was known as “Grubby,” before retiring. He loved fishing and took great pride in planting and tending his garden. He attended the Church of God Prophecy. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his wife and family. Once you met Ralph, you would fall in love with his kind spirit and generous heart. Our loss is truly heaven’s gain.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, George Turner, Isabelle Boggs, Ethel Cornett, Darrell Turner, and Joe Turner; and his son-in-law, Hollis Boggs.
His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 53 years, Sophia Turner, of Big Laurel; his children, Cathy (Paul) Jones of London, William (Faye) Turner of Big Laurel, Gary (Sherri) Turner of Bledsoe, and Karen (John) Dixon of Linefork; his brother, Buck Turner of Lexington; his 8 grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Boggs, Tyler Boggs, Willie (fiancé Katrina Brock) Turner, Ricky Turner, Faye (Andrew) Butler, Joshua (Jessica) Turner, Jordan (Ashley) Turner, and Brittany Dixon; future great grandchild, Trenton Joshua Turner, special friend Wendell Middleton, and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home Wednesday, February 5 from 6 to 9PM.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6 at 1PM also at Mount Pleasant with Reverends Eddie Estep and Gene Harris officiating.
Interment will be in the Turner Cemetery in Big Laurel, KY with grandsons serving as pallbearers. .
