Paul Hansel, 77, of Harlan, passed away March 1, 2018 at his home. He was born to the late Cooper and Margaret Herrin Hansel on February 21, 1941 in Twila, Ky. He was a 1959 Graduate of Wallins High School. He continued his Education and completed his Bachelor’s Degree in 1963 at Cumberland College, then his Masters in 1975 from Union College. On June 29, 1964 Paul married the Love of his life, Nancy Louise Hansel. His career began in 1963 where he worked for The Commonwealth of Kentucky Public Assistance until 1965. He began his Teaching career in 1965 until 1979 where he taught Elementary and High School at Wallins. From 1979 to 1983 he taught at Hall Junior High and served as Assistant Principal. He was Principal at Hall from 1983 to 1986. He then became Assistant Principal and taught school at Loyall Junior High from 1986 to 1992.
Paul Retired in 1992 after 27 years of Teaching. After retiring he worked for Harlan County Committee on Aging (Harlan County Senior Citizens) for two years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. #879 and a member of the Harlan Eastern Star Chapter 297.
He took pride in going to Sunday School at Harlan Baptist Church, enjoyed reading his Bible and learning Bible Verses. He loved his family dearly and was an amazing Husband and Father.
Mr. Hansel is Preceded in death by his parents, Cooper and Margaret Herrin Hansel and a Brother, Ronnie Lee Hansel.
Paul is survived by his Loving Wife, Nancy Louise Simpson Hansel of Harlan; Daughter, Janet Elaine Hansel of Somerset; Sister, Doris Hansel of Harlan; Mother in Law, Sudie Simpson of Rosspoint; Sister in Law, Dianne O’Dell; Brother in Law, Clarence Gaw; A Host of Nieces, Nephews, Family and Friends.
Visitation will be from 4PM to 7PM on Sunday, March 4, 2018 in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 7PM also in the chapel with Troy Gaw officiating.
Burial will be Monday, March 5, 2018 at 11Am at Resthaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Sunday School Class from Harlan Baptist Church, Hunter Blanton, Clarence Gaw and Troy Gaw. Memorial Donations can be made to Harlan Baptist Church for their Building Fund.
