Leigh was a source of inspiration and courage to all of us during her illness and she died peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington, KY, in the inpatient Hospice Care Center. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and doctors who cared for her during the last week of her celebrated life. Leigh never got to enjoy her retirement which she so excitedly looked forward to, having to medically retire from Dow Chemical Company one year ago due to her illness. Her career with Union Carbide and Dow Chemical spanned nearly 30 years after graduating with a chemistry degree from Texas A&M University while Kenneth was completing his doctoral degree in catalytic chemistry. She did, however, live her life to the fullest traveling often to visit or vacation with family in the recent years. Many knew of her passion for finding and refinishing antiques of all types. She was quite the craftswoman at lovingly restoring antique furniture to its original glory. Her attention to detail defined her. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, 122 N. Cumberland Ave., Harlan, KY 40831, on Saturday, January 18th from 11:30 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
