James Kelly, a retired coal miner from Cawood, Kentucky, passed away on August 10, 2024, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born on June 13, 1962, in the town he spent his life in. James was a man of simple pleasures and unwavering love for his family.
In his career as a coal miner, James found fulfillment and purpose. However, it was his passions outside of work that truly defined him. He was a devoted fan of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball and found solace and joy in the peaceful moments spent fishing. But above all else, James cherished his relationship with his son, James Ryan, holding that bond above all others.
Those who knew James understand the depth of his character and the warmth of his heart. His passing leaves a void in the lives of many, especially in the hearts of his surviving loved ones. James is survived by his son, James Ryan Kelly, who undoubtedly carries forward his father's legacy of love and strength.
In the tender remembrance of James, we must also acknowledge the presence of his companion, Tracy Estes, who stood by him through life's ups and downs. Additionally, he is survived by his step-mother, Burma Kelly, step-daughter Breana Madison, brothers Clayton Kelly Jr., Robert (Timber) Sizemore, Earl Kelly, Bill Kelly, and sister Tonya Kelly. His uncle, Tom (Trish) Brannon, aunt Janice Miracle, cousins Savanna (Brian) Owens and Michael (Corinna) Belcher, and special granddaughter Everleigh Arthur also mourn his loss. A multitude of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends join them in their grief, reminiscing on the impact James had on their lives.
While we celebrate the life of James Kelly, we also acknowledge the sorrow of his passing, made heavier by the absence of his parents, Clayton and Barbara Kelly, his late wife Pamela Kelly, brother Clayvis Kelly, and sisters Sandra Kelly and Tammy Kelly. Their memories interweave with our recollections of James, creating a tapestry of love and loss that will endure beyond his physical presence.
Memories of James will be cherished and held close by those who knew him best. His legacy of love, dedication, and simple joys will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were privileged to have known him.
The visitation and funeral service to honor James's life will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan, Kentucky, on August 15, 2024. The visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Sean Daniels officiating. These moments of gathering will provide solace and an opportunity to reflect on the impact of James Kelly's life on those he leaves behind.
As we say our farewells to James, let us hold onto the memories that bind us and the love that sustains us. In the quiet moments of reflection, may we find the strength to carry forward his spirit of love and devotion. James Kelly's journey may have ended, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to have known him.
