Howard Lowe, Jr., affectionately known as Jr. or Papaw, age 78, of Columbus, Ohio and formerly of Harlan, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Bellevue Hospital, Manhattan, New York.
He was born November 26, 1938 to the late, Howard and Jessie (Neil) Lowe in Harlan, KY. Howard served as a US Marine where he served his country at the US Embassy in Naples, Italy. He worked at the United Parcel Service (UPS) as a mechanic where he retired after 27 years of dedicated service. Jr. enjoyed his family, loved sun tanning, coaching his granddaughter’s sports activities, traveling but mostly playing softball and basketball in his younger years and watching sports games on T.V. He was a diehard Michigan, Yankee and Kentucky Wild Cat fan. Howard always had a smile on his face that brought out his baby blue eyes. His girls meant the world to him. He was one special person who was loved by all who knew him.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Cuma Lowe. He is survived by loving daughter, Judy Lowe Collins Porter and her husband, Robert Porter; granddaughters, Amanda (Boe) Christian and Sabrina (Jacob Whitley) Finley; step-granddaughter, Brooke Porter; great-grandchildren, Owen, Liam, Grant, Isabelle and Preston; loving companion, Minnie Michalski and her children, Javier, Silvia and Andre; many brothers, sisters, extended family and friends. A special thank you to Javier for taking such good care of Howard and for being there for him every minute and step of the way.
Graveside services will be held July 29, 2017 at 12PM in the Fields Cemetery in Cawood, Ky with the Harlan County Honor Guard preforming Military Honors. Gary Craig will be officiating.
