Edith Fern Cornett, 96, entered Heaven's eternal gates on January 19, 2017 at her daughters home surrounded by her loving family. Fern worked at the Harlan County School System at Pine Mountain Settlement School and GreenHills where she was a cook for 54 years. She was on the Mountain Artisans Hall of Fame in 2010. She was Grandmaster of The Mountain Masters in 2007. She loved to do the Spinning Wheel at Craft Shows and she was a Rosey Riveter in a defense plant in 1945.
Fern is preceded in death by her parents Moses and Stacey Smith, her husband James Franklin Cornett, Children Eugene Cornett and Donna Cornett, a brother Omer Smith, sisters Creed Sturgill and Laura Williams and two grandchildren Anthony Lambert and Ricky Amily.
Fern leaves to mourn her passing her children Francis (Clemmie) Joseph, Lela Barton, James F. Cornett Jr., Christopher Cornett, Linda (Bill) Lambert, Darlene Cornett; Seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren ; five great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 5PM to 8PM in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be January 25, 2017 at 2PM with Reverend Gene Harris and Reverend Bobby Boggs officiating. Burial will be at Cornett Cemetery in Bledsoe. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
