Charles W. “Charlie” Wattenberger, age 82, passed away March 3, 2015 at the Harlan ARH. He was born December 8, 1932 at Crummies, KY to the late Carson and Ollie Irvin Wattenberger. Charlie was the former mayor of Loyall, KY as well as a City Council Member and was a 1952 graduate of Hall High School. He was a finance officer with several local financial firms. Charlie was a veteran of the Korean War and was a Kentucky Colonel. Charlie was a member of many organizations including Shriners, Howard Lodge 819 F&AM, Harlan Council No. 91 Royal and Select Master, Duffield Commander No. 42 Knights of the Templar, and Harlan Chapter 165 Arch Mason. He was a member of the Sunny Acres Church of God.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by daughter Teresa Wattenberger Stewart, son-in-law, Jack Stewart, two brothers, sisters, Georgia Hansel, Ruby Watkins, and Jamaica Brooks.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Teddie Turner Wattenberger of Loyall, KY, Charles Wattenberger, Jr. of Rosspoint, KY, grandsons, Dustin Wattenberger of Richmond, KY and Cory Wattenberger of Harlan, KY, sisters, Mary Smith of Lexington, KY, Elsie Kirby of Florence, KY, sister-in-law, Maisie (Delmar) Napier of Hamilton, OH and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 7 from 12:30 to 2PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral will follow at 2PM at the chapel of Mount Pleasant with Reverends Jim Blair and Lonnie Napier officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery with Masonic Rites being performed. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
